Description: | formerly from Isabel Inlet (historical) q.v. extending southwest to Hatteras Inlet (q.v.). |
History: | This was a short lived name used for reference for just over two months from September 18, 2003 through November 2003. During this period Isabel Inlet (historical) q.v. existed just northeast of the village of Hatteras and just southwest of Frisco. The Inlet was created by Hurricane Isable on September 18, 2003, and existed until November 22 when the task of filling it by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was completed. While in existence the inlet severed Hatteras Island necessitating use of Little Hatteras Island for the isolated area southwest of the inlet. |
